Self examination.......is no bad thing. If we can say we acted for what we thought were the right reasons at the time then we are doing ok. If the concience is to be truly clear we mut vaule being honest with ourselves about ourselves. We all have things in our past we would rather forget but if we can move on and startwith a clean sheet and learn from the past......is about as good as it gets.

You already know the answer! Your "intuition" or conscience mind declares the thought, action and consequence. Ultimately responsiblity is the accountable source of the moment. Being "clear" maybe a choice and not a goal. Your intent is to be!
Perfection is a state where things are the way they are and the way they are not.

When you follow God's laws & are truly sorry & ask for forgiveness when you are wrong, then there is no problem having a clear concience!
& yes we need a clear concience to be truly happy!Ppl with no concience have no feelings except for self preservation,so therefore they are dead already.
A person without a concience is clearly more dangerous than an angry person who loses control.
They hurt or kill without remorse & will repeat the behaviour until they are caught. An angry person can kill too,but it takes alot of mental abuse & a longer time for them to break, usually. They also feel remorse when it is over, most of the time.

Your conscience is only based on your life experiences and know ledges. so when you determine to solve a problem in yr life, you must have full knowledge. One of the sources is religion. when you say "the way of right living" can be found in religion. you must make yr conscience strong and righteous because human nature itself is tricky and cunning and bias. you can not escape from it. most importantly, you have to see the life truely and differently.

Is your question about whether God and a conscience are two different things? I think most Christians look to God to lead them in their actions and decision-making, not a "conscience." Now, about having a "clear conscience," like you asked: I suppose that Catholics, once they've confessed to a priest, would feel that they had a clear conscience. And born-again Christians feel better when they've admitted their sins to Christ in prayer. (The cool thing about that is that Christ forgives. Some refer to that as "God's grace.")

If you treat yourself and those around you well then thats as noble an aim as any. You don't need god to do that, its a personal choice. If you believe in Karma its the best choice.
