If you've had it for 9 days, chances are that it could be a bacterial infection and not the flu. You may have been misdiagnosed. Go back to the doctor.

Go to the drug store and get some vitamin C, it will help your immune system. Then get some Muscilex the medication that breaks up mucus in the lungs (if you have a lot of coughing) or you can get some standard cold medications to treat your symptoms. You could also try Thera-Flu a mix that you add to hot water. NyQuil will let you get to sleep for an entire night so you can get some good sleep, but it does have alcohol in it.

Once you have the flu the only way to treat it is the treat the symptoms. A flu shot or flue pill only gives you a dead form of the virus so your body can build up an immunity to it. If you have the virus, then your body is already working on building an immunity for it. Your doctor may have given you a pill to make it easier for your body to get develop those antibodies, but any further use will not do you any good.

Your best bet is the oldest advice in the world; "Get plenty of bed rest, and drink some hot fluids." Make sure you get some sleep, and most over the counter sleep aids don't work well at all. You would do better if you bought some Sleepy-Time Tea.

This flu is terrible I had all those symptoms and lost weight and today makes 7 days and I am still coughing. My friends thought I had the west nile virus but the nurse said it leaves a big sore where the mosquito bite you. There really isn't anything you can do for this flu pencilin doesn't help. By the way after 7 days I still have the diarrea and want to sleep. Grandma is still sick and it has been as long for her. The doctors say Robutessin and Vicks nyquil is all they would prescribe. Which you can get over the counter. My folks got a gallon or pure orange juice.

Vitamin C is only useful in preventing flu, and is useless upon onset of flu.
MY recommendation is for you to try taking pseudoephidrine( which will stop ur runny nose) and loratidine. 1 tablet each, twice a day.
If you can afford to sleep, take piriton, three times a day, go lie down and you should be cured by the end of the day.
IF you can't get these from the pharmacist, try panadol for cold(the latest one) I heard that it works like a charm unless your flu is caused by an allergy.

I feel sorry for you, I hope you feel better soon. Sometimes it just has to run its course, try to sweat it out, sweat out the germs by bundling up, drinking hot chicken noodle soup, hot teas to promote sweating. Drink lots of fluids, water, citrus juices and cranberry juice, they help flush things plus have vitamin C in them. Try to sleep as much as you can, rest is important so your body can fight it. If your stomach is off try some peppermint candies and gingerale, keep heavy foods to a minimum and opt for soups and crackers. Try a vaporizer for nasal congestion and coughs. Also menthol, the vapor shots by Vicks help alot. For fever take something like tylonel.
