Can we substitute butter for oil when making a cake

Very few cakes use oil. You need to use margarine

Generally you can't. Butter contains solids which can burn and otherwise disrupt the chemistry of the cake. Some cakes will fall and collapse for example.

You know it doesn't have the same consistency. I do know that if you wants to reduce the amount of oil...you can add about a tablespoon of mayo..it helps make it rich and moist. But mayo is made with oil.

For the best taste I recommend butter for most of your receipes that calls for oil.

no i dont think that would be a good idea....the oil is so the batter wont be so thick....maybe if you melted the butter but i still dont think that would work

no..but you can substitute mayonaise or applesauce! Both will be delicious and moist!
