I gave birth 9 1/2 months ago. I gained 40 lbs with my pregnancy. I breastfed for the first 6 months. I've made an effort since then to go for walks and eat healthy meals. (I also did a concentrated 6 week, 5x a week, 30min each time work out effort.)

I still have 15lbs to lose and it's coming up on my son's 1-year birthday in a few months. The main area I need to lose the weight is around my belly. I hate it! The fat even folds over the edges of my pants--giving me this awful mushroom appearance. I haven't really been shopping since he was born because I hate the way I look in my clothes. It's been very frustrating. (After all, I thought for sure I'd lose all the weight by 3 months post-birth. Ha!)

My question is: how do I lose the weight in my belly? Also, if I do a ton of AB work, won't that just make the muscles below my fat really big--which would make me look even bigger around my middle section? How do I get my flat tummy back? Personal stories would be great!

Fat stored around the stomach results in a greater health risk than fat stored in other parts of the body. Abdominal fat could cause high blood pressure, high blood sugar and heart disease. I found good info on ways to reduce fat from the waist and stomach at http://www.toloseweight.org/losestomachfat.html

It sounds like you really bounced back great after the baby- congratulations!. Now think about how the skin in your stomach looks- is it crinkly and flabby, starting above the belly button and just kind of hangs down-- if so, exercises will not get you back to where you want to be- you may need a tummy tuck or at least, a liposuction. Some women just cant lose that excess fat that deposits right under the stomach muscles around the belly button and you should talk to you gynecologist- he may recommend surgical intervention or if he thinks it can be helped by any type of abdominal exercises. Good luck

Hi, I also had my baby 6 weeks ago and i'm a size smaller than before i was pregnant... i still have to tighten up a bit. When i'm walking round cleaning and doing laundry i tense my stomach muscles and hold for 10-15 seconds and just keep repeating, I also make housework into exercise by putting music on and dancing from place to place, when you bend down to pick something up do a few squats while your already down there, a gym ball is a must have...i lay on my back with the curve of the ball at the base of my spine and tense my stomach muscles while doing sit up's, you can also lay on your stomach on the ball an do push ups, i walk to the shops instead of taking the car and when im out hanging laundry i run round playing catch with my 2 older kids for 15 mins. Just be as active as you can, avoid the junk food and try making all your chores into some kind of exercise...it's worked for me. Good Luck.

My personal story is that I have lost 27 pounds (more coming off) and 2 3/4" in my waist in the last 42 days on a no diet, no exercise, no skipped meals, no special foods natural and healthy weight loss plan called STACK. It only take 15 minutes a day to use. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Pilates is a great way to tone up your abs. Walmart has or did have a Pilates DVD called Pick your Spot Pilates. It is 10 minutes on Abs, 10 minutes on thighs and 10 minutes on butt. It is a great workout. With Pilates you will start to notice a difference in a couple of weeks if you do them about every other day.
