I have the old school microsoft word and I don't have powerpont at all. My microsft word has recently been giving me a lot of problems; it needs to be updated. Is there a cite where I can find and download these two softwares for free?

You can't get it for free. You can get a similar product called Open Office for free at http://openoffice.org. It will open and edit Word and PPT files although their program names are different. But they work pretty well and look and feel like the Microsoft stuff you are used to. But if you want the actual Microsoft name on things and want it to be legal, you have to pay for it.
