You had to be over the center line. When driving, we are to the right, so left of center means you veered and into a lane deignated for traffic going the other direction and then remained there. Even if there is no other traffic, unkind officers may cite you. Some officers will cite you if you are facing the opposite way when parked, because it means you had to drive in the wrong lane (ask me how I found that one out).

There does not need to be a double yellow line, or a dashed and solid line, or a dashed line. The law is that you may not drive in the wrong lane. Crossing a double yellow is an immediate violation. If there is a dashed line and a solid line, with the solid line on your side, this too is an immediate violation if crossed. Dashed lines are merely lines s howing you where the lane boundaries are, they may be crossed, but not for an indefinite period, it is typically only if you need to pass or are making a turn across them.

It is also called improper lane usage in some states. It means you crossed the center line and you are very lucky you were not given a field sobriety test!

You crossed over the center line. You left your lane and went into the other lane.

It means you crossed the double yellow line into the oncoming traffic's side. Good thing! Sometimes, they'll upgrade it to 'reckless driving', or stop you and give you a sobriety test for doing that. Not speaking from my own experience, of course. My boss used to be a police officer.

You went left of your lane markings. Each side of the road has lane markings and you were in the other lane therefore Left of center.

When driving one must stay in the proper lane.

You must have crossed over to the oncoming lane.

Or you could have been driving in both lanes.
