There is nothing to stop you from doing the splits. There is nothing in the makeup and layout of your body that prevents the legs from spreading out sideways so that you can make a 180 degree angle, no bones, no soft tissue that cannot be conditioned to stretch to that extent. The reason most people can't do it is because of no practice. But take it easy, be satisfied with small gains. Otherwise you might do damage as I did. 1/4 of an inch per week is an inch per month, 4 months is 4 inches. Weight is not a factor. Gender is. Women have a different construction and are more flexible. Ask anybody who has done Karate. Females do the high kicks faster, better and nicer looking than males.

Depends on your definition of a little over weight. Flexibility is hindered by range of motion. If you are so over weight that you cannot move your legs into the correct position, then yes. A little fluffy around the edges? Maybe. Depends on if you could do the splits anyway.

NO! I am about 20 pounds over what is considered "overweight" what ever I don't listen to that crap. But I can do the splits both ways.

No I used to go to school with a girl who was about 200 pounds and about 5'8"...not hugely big but fat...she could complete splits.....and get back up. She was heavy but very active...she was on the volleyball team, softball team at my high school. Very athletic...it just proves that not all fat people are lazy!!!

No it's not true. I am slightly overweight and I can do the splits. Also I know plenty of people who can do them and are overweight. It depends on your flexibility.

No, I've seen very heavy-set girls do splits before. It's all a matter of stretching out those muscles and practicing.

I think it all depends on how flexible you are! but somethings do make a differance like I am sure a really overweight person would have trouble cause they are not as fit or flexible.

Not true. We had some chubby cheerleaders at my highschool and they could do the splits.
