Before anyone jumps up & down, I am not saying ALL religious people do. But why are psychics and anyone who has a gift of that nature hated and called devil worshipers?
Do christians believe that psychics get their information first hand from Satan or are they just scared they might hear something they don't like?

Just to clarify, I am NOT psychic myself.

There is a great difference between religion and spirituality.

Spirituality is born from a personal occurrence with a divine, psychic or mystical experience of one form or another which inevitably connects a person to All that Is/God/Goddess/Allah/Great Spirit /whatever you want to call it.

Religion is second hand opinion of someone else’s divine experience. I think you will find that religions, and especially fanatical religions, tend to separate and divide people, while spirituality brings people together.

Thank God that Spirituality is on the increase!

In Christianity, there are specific prohibitions against consulting with psychics and occultists of all kinds. Yes, Christians (who read their Bibles) do think that psychics get their information from satan.

Some scriptures on this topic include:

Exodus 22:18, Deuteronomy 18:10, and Acts 8:9 and Acts 13:6.

Finding a true psychic is almost impossible. Finding someone who can read people, get them to talk and then make the most obvious prediction of outcome on the information gathered happens every day around the world. I even see it on TV. I think with a bit of information on how to read people, anyone can pass themself off as a psychic. Anyone I know is false and just out to make a buck, falls under the same scrutiny no matter what title or gift they claim to have. I have met some people who claim to receive inspiration and guidance from angels . . . and they follow the same recipe as a psychic does.

As long as we have free choice, no one can really predict our future. When anyone tells us what our response should be and then we make decisions on those predictions, we have given away our free choice and we loose a piece of our self.

No christian can say they hate the psychic and face the truth about judgment. They can and should oppose and reject psychic teachings. I do not doubt that many posses abilities beyond the average person. Having tasted both sides I can say that those who have this ability must face the fact that things fall in one or two columns. The gift is God given and intended to be used only as God leads them to use or the gift is not God given and they use it to draw others away from the true God and HIS teachings. There were seers in the bible and God made the position on these matters clear.

I think the reason christians have a problem with psychics is because every psychic that I know tries to weave the God of the Bible into their philosophy. This is offensive to us because the God of the Bible prohibits contact with the dead and most psychics claim to communicate in some way with the dead. They also end up saying things like "There is no Hell" - i.e Sylvia Browne. She has also said there are no demons. The Bible teaches that there is but one death and then the judgement. Psychics deny that truth by saying we all have past lives. So, for me personally, my frustration with psychics is that they are polluting God's Word with their own philosophies. I hate psychics, but I read their books for insight into their way of thinking (or shall I say their way of not thinking.) My wife loved Sylvia Browne and John Edward. I kept telling her to wait and see how long it takes them before they flatly contradict the Bible. They claim to be God's agents - but deny him when they teach. My wife has seen the light and can't stand them now. As for you - you'd better stand for something or you'll fall for anything!

Anyone who isnt professing Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is not speaking from God. There where psychics back in Biblical times too who claimed to be prophets and we're told to test them. Now if we (Christians) believe that Jesus is Lord and Savior and believe His words, why would we believe the words of a human especially if they are going against HIS Word?

Generally if it doesn't come from God or Jesus it is not from a good source, I think Christians believe psychics are being manipulated by something evil.

Some Christians believe in the absolute duality in the spiritual world. That is to say, there's God, there's Satan and nothing else. So, if it doesn't come from God, then it must come from Satan.

Astrology, Psychics - are not from God, so they can only be from one other place.
It is used by the evil one to create a false faith - other than in God.
