The teardrop tattoo has different meanings.
"When they were first worn they meant that the wearer had been incarcerated and or killed someone while in or out of prison. As times have changed however, the teardrop has come to symbolize a friend or fellow gang member or family member that has died while the wearer is incarcerated.
Now however the teardrop seems to have become a fad, which granted has gotten people in trouble.
It has also been used as a gang identifier. If it was on the right it meant you were a Crip or part of the Folk Nation, on the left meant Blood or People's Nation."

Well, in California jails, one teardrop represented one year in county jail or state prison. Additional teardrops represented additional years. Sort of like hash marks on a military uniform.

Funny how nobody wants to admit the Definition of the Tattoo meaning the individual has been RAPED in PRISON. but regardless if you agree to that definition or not, its the TRUTH. Its one of the many definitions behind the TEAR DROP Tattoo.
One has been raped in prison. Symbolizes he belongs to another inmate. Tear drop represents the humiliation, manhood being taken.

Originally it meant that the wearer was made someone's girl in prison and they were raped. Guys did not want to admit that so they told people they got it ti symbolize they killed someone.

Different meanings, for some it means they killed (1 drop per body), for some it signifies 10 years in prison for every drop, I'm sure there are more meanings.

murder. thats it. I seen a show once on court tv, the detective said how they knew they had the right guy was when he was taken to court from jail he had 2 new tattoos(teardrops) for the 2 people he was accused of killing. stupid criminal.
