That is way too much for anyone, you got a serious problem and I am not trying to be mean. I was addicted to xanax for 5 years and everytime I tried to wean myself off, I got so sick and just went back to eating them like M&M's. I finally decided that is no way to live, always counting my pills and figuring out how to scam doctors for more. I started getting serious with stopping and went to acupuncture for about 8-9 weeks, once a week. I had to eat some chinese herbs and slowly decreased my amount until I was off them. Absolutely no withdrawal and let me tell you, I wish I had done it sooner! I feel good, I think clearly now and even my body looks normal cuz xanax adds weight from your organs actually swelling up in your body. You should look to get off them, you don't want to go through life in a cloud.

The words addiction and abuse are interchangeable and used too easily. To me addiction means that you want more and more of a certain chemical to be able to cope with life. In my case I started of with 15 mg of Valium per day 40 years ago. Today I still take only the same amount because the withdrawal symptoms are horrible. Yet, in spite of using the same dosage for 40 years Doctors say that I am addicted and am abusing it. There is always a trade-off. If you feel OK with what you are taking and have no desires to increase the dose then the benefits may well outweigh the disadvantages. Prepare for tomorrow and then forget about it. You have done all you can do. Live for today and enjoy it without guilt feelings or worries.

I was addicted to Xanax at one time in my life - 3-4mg daily
I quit cold turkey ..
I DO NOT recommend this!
I saw little men, I was paranoid, I heard things that were not there for over 2 weeks
Talk to your Md who has been prescribing the Xanax and ask for a slow withdrawal from it
He/she can write scripts of decreasing dosage so you can be Xanax free within a year
Good Luck.. you can do it
If you need a antianxiey med that is non addictive- its called BuSpar

Lol I take them too don't worry. You do have a prescription though I hope? You can take as many as you want as long as you are directed to do so by a doctor. The normal thereupeutic range for treatment ranges from .25mg to 6mg and there is no guideline as each person adjusts to medications differently.
If you feel as if you have a problem, or the drug is affecting your life in a negative way you should see your doctor and have the medication changed. There are seveal alternatives depending on what condition it is treating. A popular alternative, Buspar provides the benefits of Xanax without the addictive properties.
Xanax is also a popular street drug and is highly addictive.

I just got prescribed xanax Friday and I am thanking God for it right now. I am going to try and be careful with it because I have read up on how addictive it can be, but right now there is a lot going on and I really need the help of the meds.

I'm not addicted to xanax but know alot of people who are. first of all you may have the addicted gene and even though it may not be what others in your family are addicted to you still have the gene. it may go back a few generations. but i would go to Dr. tell him you want to wean yourself off them and have him help you then he can give you something that's not addicting that will work just as well. i think xanax was the worst drug nest to Oxycontin they could put on the market. but go see your Dr. and ask him to wean you off and give you something that's NOT addicting and he will help you i promise he will. best of luck.

i used to be addicted to xanax, i felt like i HAD to take it every day when a certain situation arose. the way i conquered it was just to have someone else take control of my pills...so they regulated how often i took the pills. yeah, that sucked for a while, but i got over it eventually and i'm glad i can live without it now! i hope the same for you! but definitely talk to your doctor first so that you can be sure to get weaned off of it effectively.

I dont take Xanex but if you feel you have become addicted, you need to go to your doctor and talk with them about this. That way you can safely decide what options are avaliable to you. This is a common problem with Xanex. Good luck to you.
