It's not wrong, but there are certainly things you shouldn't talk to strangers about. People ask strangers their opinions all the time from asking the waitress "whats good" or asking a retail clerk "do you think this works for me". One thing to remember though is you need to take advice at face value. If you barely know someone, then how are you sure that they have your best interests at heart?

No, it can actually be quite flattering. Once I was shopping for shoes and a stranger asked if I liked the shoes she'd picked out to go with her new outfit. She thought I looked stylish and I took it as a compliment.

Another time, a stranger at the grocery store asked which hair color she should go for.

Of course, avoid politics and religion, but otherwise, asking an opinion is fine.

Sure, it is called conversation. Most people would agree it is probably not a good idea to get into religion or politics in a conversation, but it depends on where you are at, and who you are talking to. At your parents anniversary party, no. At the local watering hole, maybe. At a private party where debate is the entertainment for the evening, sure. On Answers, that is the idea.
Asking is how you get to know people, and learn something new.

Sometimes getting an outside perspective of a problem can shed alot of light on the situation.
Being to close clouds our judgment.

So to answer your question.. Its not wrong to ask.
As long as your not being rude or interrupting there already ongoing conversation.

No but remember they are stranger and thier advise may not be all that valuable since they do not know you. On the other hand sometimes it is easier to ask a stranger for the same reason.

Well, that's what Yahoo Answers does here. We don't know anyone here yet we ask their opinions on things that are important to us. I don't often come here for advice but to see how diverse opinions can be on one topic. I find it interesting to see another perspective.

Nope, that's what this site is all about. People like to impart their knowledge, wisdom and opinions. I know I do. It's fun.
