If you can break your lease and you don't feel safe, move. Taking a stand sounds nice and staying put "sounds" nice, but you shouldn't have to risk your life to prove a point.
If your lease is not up for awhile, tell the landlord or apartment owner that you don't feel safe and see if you can work something out. Perhaps there is a penalty you can pay to leave the lease early. Paying a penalty to leave is better than being robbed, seriously hurt, or killed.

7 months? and only twice?
That's actually pretty good.
We get shots fired calls nearly every day. Simply call the police every time and don't go outside.
If you hear anything about who it may be- contact the police. You do not have to identify if you don't want to.
Start a neighborhood patrol or participate if its not very active.
Remember- most agencies have manpower shortages and are reactive instead of proactive.

Report the gun shots so that the cops will investigate the incidents and people in your apartment area will be cautious of making the same disturbing acts.

Get an education, and then help your community rebuild. Running solves nothing, soon we are going to run out of places to go, unless we stop running and start helping
