yes it is highly possible. If you have an addictive personality this is for all drugs and alcohol. Alot of alcoholics replace their alcohol addiction with something else.

Let me try to answer your question using assumptions based on cases :
If person A - Alchoholic ; person A - Not a drug addict. But person A has friends who are both alcoholics and drug addicts , It will be a short time before person A picks up drugs too!
If person A- Alcoholic ; person A listens to heavy metal music
then person A is vulnerable to drugs
If person A-Alcoholic ; person A - associates with sober people and is determined to come out of the booze addiction, then chances of drugs catching person A = Less
If person A-Alcoholic ; person A - bored and wants to try out a new source for his drives/pleasure , then drugs easily appeal to person A.
Thus I want to say that it is more of a choice and influence, but there is more to this issue. Let me stop here.

yes because they have the addicted nature in their genes. its more like a mental health thing.usually if the were addicted to alcohol then alot of times they will substitute another drug for the alcohol so they can say they haven't drank. but they are still an addict. its like an herritated addiction. some people can drink and never use anything else because they want to keep their sobriety others think because they haven't drank that if they use some else then they still have their sobriety but in fact they do not they are still using mind altering chemicals. so if they are not drinking now tell them not to use anything else because it interferes with their sobriety. and they have to start their count down for being clean over to last day they used ANYTHING. and chances are they will go back to drinking if not a worse drug.

theoretically they could because they might be more interested in something else, or they might have more confidence to avoid getting addicted to said illegal drugs. or theoretically they wouldn't because they'd be too focused to stay off alcohol than get addicted to something else. it really depends on the character

Yes. It often happens by substitution- for example if one is not available, it gets substituted by another substance.
Also, some people are prone to be addicts more than others.
