About 5 years ago, i became quite depressed. After a few months of being this way, i got a job and things started to look good for me.
I never got any medical help and i never took anti depressants.

But, 5 years on, sometimes i wonder if i am back to being 100% the way i was before i got depressed...

How can I tell if I am ok or losing my mind and not even aware of it?

It's quite doubtful you'd ever be back to 100% the way you were 5 years ago. It's improbable that anybody is the same now as they were even a year or 6 months ago. :)

Our experiences change and if you no longer have the symptoms of depression (extreme and rapid weight loss/gain, too much sleep/no sleep, etc.) then you're just fine and feeling different now is a natural change.

Everyone has ups and downs, one way to identify if one is more depressed than not is to think about how long you feel down. The key is finding the balance so the down times are short times. (even Ghandi felt sad at times) :)

Don't worry too much...

Are you feeling depressed? Do you have trouble sleeping, or over sleep often? Do you overeat or not enough? Do you find yourself less interested in things that you used to enjoy? Do you cry easily, for what seems to be no reason. Although a complete stranger cannot diagnose depression, a doctor can. Sometimes even a very small dose of an anti-depressant can help.
I have suffered from depression for 8 years. Another thing you may find useful if you are weary of anit-depressants (they can have some awful side effects) check to see how much B vitamins you take in a day. If you are unsure, go buy a Vitamin B complex (high potency) since I went off the meds, thats really helped me a lot.

There's a depression assessment test on WebMD. If you answer yes to so many questions, you may be clincally depressed. I suggest taking it to see if you fit any of the symptoms of depression, and if you do, call your doctor.

I will warn you though, that some doctors can be too eager to put their patients on antidepressants, so it's important to determine if you really need them or not, or if this is something that can be dealt with by therapy, etc.

Hope this helps!
