The problem with the Middle Eastern conflict is that it is not a single force the American military is fighting: It is a culture, a religion. Though many people, have many opnions on the matter, here is mine.
This administration does believe that victory is possible, where it is completly improbable. The major factor in this, is the divisions of the area, between country, clan, and religion (Clan, as in sect of religion, family lineage, etc.), in which shows no mercy for those whom attempt to change their traditions. The current Administration is pushing democracy upon a culture that has rejected such for over two millenia... No matter the strategy, withdrawal is the only option to cease bloodshed, yet keep a strong home defense incase of a counter-incursion.
Edit: Correction, it is not the only option. As Celtic Rebel said, equip our troops bloody properly, and perhaps we can tough it out, and settle the more... radical of the lot in the sandpit over there.

Go long and strong. I think the U.S. should stay till maybe mid 2008 and maybe have a 10,000 man permenent base to train the Iraqis. At the end of the year 500,000 Iraqis will have been trained as soldiers and police. The key part of the strategy is that the U.S. might have to train 500,000 more men. That would leave almost 1 million men vs 10,000-25,000 men. The insugency wouldn't be able to keep up and die off. It would be cheaper and more political sound to do it that way.

Sure is. Only for 2 more years until i'm pretty sure go home will be implemented. Until then the idea will be Go long but not as strong. Since the 2/3 of the main deciders will have a withdray begin we will loose numbers no matter what. After 3/3 want out there's not a single thing stopping us from getting out.

I agree with Kissinger and therefore prefer to leave immediately. If we can't "win" then let's roll. Going long does seem to reek of staying the course... if they actually reduce the # of troops over there.

Yes. Let's stay the course. We went into Iraq for a reason, and we're not leaving until we got what we came for: a civilized democracy in the modern Middle East. We can't come this far and then just give up and go home. We (the United States of America) need to stay UNITED and defend our country. LET'S STAY STRONG, AMERICA!

It is not that these people do not want democracy, they want a democracy made on their own cultural rules. That is what they want. They oppose us placing a western, Christian idea of democracy in an Islamic region. They want a democracy that is their own to make. Their opposition has been to the British, the French, the Soviets, and now us. Let them make a democracy according to the Islamic religion, guided by that faith, and we will see stability come to the region once more. Until then, expect more 9/11's.

No, the current option, "stay the course" is the unspoken one called "Go to Hell." Which is where we are letting these bastards send our troops without adequate ammunition, supplies armor or benefits when they come home.
Sickening isn't it?

The Islamic world needs ENLIGHTENMENT. 10Kt over MECCA should do it. 10Kt over the Iran Nuke site. We have the airliners on 9/11 and the WTC that would balance the books and make this a balanced response.
Then we can leave and let Allah sort things out.
