Windows XP sp2 is a major update to Windows XP that fixes many of the security holes in XP to protect your computer better from viruses and malware. It also installs an improved version of the Windows Firewall. It adds the Security Center and a popup blocker for the Internet. It also updates some of the other add on programs in XP. It is strongly recommended because without it your computer is open to all kinds of attacks, viruses, etc.

It's supposed to make your computer more secure. It kept making mine crash. Dell had me take it back off (Dell said it wasn't compatible with my computer), even though Microsoft kept telling not to. My computer has run fine without it.
