The best way to thaw meat is in the refrigerator (this takes a long time though, around 24 hours maybe). You can also put it in a zip top bag and put it in cool (not hot, not cold) water.

I don't know how you would try to thaw it in the oven. I'm sure the lowest setting is all the higher you'd want it. Maybe that would work to put it in the oven for a very short time, to get it started, and then in the cool water?

I know you're not supposed to have meat for long times at temperatures in which bacteria can grow, and that's why thawing in the fridge or microwave is most recommended (and in cool water is fine too). However, I've used hot water to finish thawing things that were mostly thawed but still frozen in the center.

If you're going to be browning the meat, you can get it mostly thawed, and then just brown it in the pan like normal. Just make sure you break up the meat as soon as you can, so the frozen areas can start cooking. You might still be able to see the shape that it was extruded in (noodle-like shape), but it'll be just fine, as long as you cook it til it's no longer red or pink.

Good luck! Add more info or ask another question if you need more help!

I do try to thaw in the fridge, just because I have worked in restaurants and I know the horrors of not properly handling food! Though, I do admit, it can take several days for things to thaw in my fridge (I have it really cold b/c I just get paranoid about bad bacteria and things...) but if I have a whole chicken that isn't thawed all the way, I admit, I just cut it in half w/ the kitchen shears and season it and bake it anyway. I just account for the little extra frozen-ness, and bake a little longer. If I don't do that, I do the pot w/ continuous flow of cold water over it. Thaws pretty quickly that way.

If you will be going to work in the morning, I would put it in the fridge to thaw (But first, put it it a plastic container to catch any possible leakage!). You could also thaw it by putting it in a sink of cool water. You might have to add "warmer" cool water when the water turns really cold, but these two methods are the safest ways to thaw meat and decrease the spread of food-born illness!

The refrigerator method is the best way to thaw hamburger and small cuts of meat. Since there’s less drip out, the meat will be juicier and more flavorful when cooked. Allow 5 hours per pound. After thawing, hamburger and poultry should be cooked within two days, beef and pork within five.

The cook it frozen method is a good solution for hamburger patties and thin steaks. Some chefs prefer it to the refrigerator method since it’s so easy to overcook fresh or thawed patties or thin steaks.

Take meat out of freezer the evening before you plan on using it, thaw on plate in the refrigerator over night.

You wouldn't thaw it in the oven, it would begin to cook. You could thaw it in room temperature water. I would just cook it in a pan. What are you making?

no you can't do that because that will cook the meat and that leaves a very fowl scent. just thaw it in cold water.
