There is nothing in the world that will make a cold pass any faster. It is a virus, and your own immune system had to deal with it. The over the counter medications can help control most of the symptoms, but really you do best if you rest, drink and eat well. If you insist on going on full steam and burn the candle at both ends, you will just overtax the system and make it take longer to fight off. If you have the sore throat, that's your clue to drink lots of fluids. The moister you keep the throat the less sore it is. If you happen to stumble on a cure, let the rest of the world know. The pharmaceutical companies will beat a path to your door, and you will be a shoo in for the Nobel Prize in several categories. Meantime, buy the tissues with lotion, lots of juice and lots of soup, rent some good movies, get out your ratty, comfy pajamas, and settle in for a few days.

It's possible, but highly unlikely. "Cold's" are opportunistic infections. Most colds are viral, meaning they can change strands, but once you're infected and have repressed the infection it's highly unlikely you'll catch, pass it on or suffer through it again. Just be safe, and wash hands after everything. And, as far as the medication goes. . . It may be viral, may not be a cold at all, and/or may be bacterical/protozoan/etc. that keeps reoccurring because of a common atmosphere (i.e. dust in home, pathogens on floor or furniture). Medication isn't always the proper answer. First, find out if it's just a "common cold." Could be something else. . . not to worry.

Once you know your getting sick try not to over exert yourself. Relax and rest a bit, drink plenty of fluids, eat chicken soup, and gargle with warm salt water 3 times a day for your sore throat. Also take a few Tylenol cold a flue pills. I really depends on your body's immune system and how fast you will get over your cold along with taking care of yourself. If your symptom progress and last for more than 2 days, go see a doctor. Good luck, hope you get better soon.

Drink plenty of fluids. I would suggest taking vitamin C and zinc. For your throat you could eat a teaspoon of honey, it helps with a sore throat. Don't forget to get plenty of rest to let your immune system work. Also, you could also drink echinacea tea, or a tea that says for the common colds. They would also help! Good luck and feel better.

go to walgreens and go to the vitamin section buy some
zinc supplement and echinacea. sold separately.
My son told me about this a couple years back when I would
always get the flu. It works great.... take when you start
getting run down and feeling crappy. I haven't had the flu since I started doing this. Don't take for a prolonged period as it loses it's affect if you take it daily. Aspirins are good for the sore throat.

There are things called "coldees" and I heard they work REALLY good. I havent actually used them but my father in law took them when he felt a cold coming on, and he never caught the cold. I'm sure you can buy them at any drugstore. Goodluck, and hopefully you don't catch it :)

i take nyquil/dayquil at appropriate times as soon as i feel that tickle in my throat. i use the nasal spray. i square it shortens the cold. but science is against my theory. science states that the common cold cannot be shortened, u just got to let it run its course. they have medication to relieve symptoms.

it always runs for 7 days, no getting around that but common over the counter treatments will suppress the symptoms.

zinc is said to shorten the duration...and if you take echinacea as soon as you know you've been exposed you might actually be able to ward it off...if you wait until you have symptoms, you can still boost your immune system and help keep it from getting as bad as it might otherwise...
