I think my mom taped my fingers together. I would advise helping him stop because it can cause changes in the mouth/palate if it continues too long. I had to get braces because of the changes and my palate permantently has the indention of a thumb in it.

The problem with thumb sucking is that it is an emotional thing. My doctor told me they do not go to college sucking their thumbs so not to worry about it - the child will quit when the time is right.

The problem is if the thumb is infected or hurt.

Try to give him a pacifier in order to save his thumb

Bandage up the thumb tell him it is hurt.

You can take the pacifier away later.

hi , i am a dentist.
the problem with sucking his teeth is that he's going to displace the permenant tooth buds anteriorly. causing problems in allignment and thus , speech and swollowing. there is an applience that a dentist might suggest which is called a goal post. this will help him break this habbit for good,
you can also show him the difference between his infected thumb and the other one , telling him that the infected one is sad because he's making it look ugly.

Paint the nail polish on it each nighttime to keep the potential of the style. tell him a narrative about at the same time as little ones advance up they are going to sometime awaken and their thumb will style undesirable. tell him that it signifies that he's turning out to be up and does no longer want to do it any extra. If that fails, there's a sparkling plastic gadget that you'll be able to purchase that is going around the thumb and wrist that locks on in order that as that they could't suck their thumb anymore.

hi dad
easy put a band-aid on your son's thumb the red colouring material not brown plastic.
as the red material does not taste good at all and then wrap white tape around the thumb changing the dressing twice a day to make sure it stays dry and clean.
if all else fails hot chillies sauces will work a treat but not to much where it will burn his mouth.
good luck

Whenever he sucks his thumb, come up behind him and hit a steel bar with a hammer. Behavioralist John Watson did it and it worked to make the baby afraid of rats.

Put mittens on his hands and make sure he can't get them off. Get the waterproof kind so the saliva doesn't bother the thumb while it's healing.

JAY,
SUBSTITUTE AN ORTHODONTIC PACIFIER FOR HIS THUMB.
WHY ORTHODONTIC?
SP AS NOT TO DISTURB THE GROWTH OF HIS PRIMARY DENTITION.
