Why is it that most religions seem to want to impose their superstition upon others and want to convert people to their cause. I don't mind people doing whatever in the comfort of their own homes but when Christians go around saying gays are evil or Muslims wander around imposing controls upon women and trying to get people to live under Sharia Law, I am a little perturbed. Is their a religion that does not try and impose it's will upon other people or tell its adherents how to live their lives?

A basic tenant of Deism is that all must find their own path to God. Deists were responsible for the First Amendment of the Constitution which prohibits establishment of a state religion. There is no proselytizing and no organized body (beyond a few groups, but no churches). God gave us reason, not religion.

A religion is a system of beliefs and the attendant rituals. It has no consciousness, and there for no will or ability to want or impose anything. Adherents to a religion follow it's tenants because that is what Adherents do, and it is their decision, made freely and of their own will, not something that can be imposed. Someone forced to comply at gunpoint is not an adherent, but a slave. You should rather ask are there people of any religion who do not attempt to impose their beliefs on others, and the answer is yes, in all religions. Individual humans make individual choices, and justify them as they will, religion is, for many, just a tool for achieving a private agenda, but in such cases it is the individual who is at fault, not the religion.

This is exactly how I felt as a christian so I looked into Paganism, something that had long intrigued me. Instead of being evil devil worshipping like I had been brought up to believe, Paganism has some very spiritual religions that are earth based. There are no rules as such to live by and you can even take bits from different religions. I have one friend who has combined 2 different religions. It may not be right for you but it might be worth a look. I have never been happier. The only real rule that transends most Pagan religions is the do as you will but harm none. So live your life how you want as long as you do not go around hurting others.

You are confusing people with scripture. No scripture has walked up and tapped you on the shoulder and said look here. If an alcohalic stops drinking all his friends find him to be a pain. Same is true for getting healed (the definition of being saved) .

Gos lets you and everyone not wishing to be His friend alone if He did not then there would be no more of lotsa evil stuff going on. Do as you like and if these are bothering you and not me (since they do not know I am justified and reconciled) I have to wonder whu is that. They did not bother me b4 I made friends with Jesus or after so what makes you so special---guilt perhaps??

No. It is a short but true answer. Religion is just that. Realizing that you are not living right and that it has consequences. Christians should not impose anything. If you want to live for Christ you will do what is right and be happy to do so. If not leave. A Christian should show concern for an individual and love them where they are. But, having said that you cannot validate a wrong lifestyle or something that is contrary to God's written word.

I feel I may not have expressed myself properly, but maybe you understand what I am trying to say.

Well, the only religions that wouldn't tell others how to live their lives is a religion that doesn't recruit people. And such things don't exist (anymore). They all get wiped out of existence by powerful evangelistic forces.

Besides: you can be intolerant of other peoples ways of life without religion. Just look at the episode of South Park that dealt with just that! Athiest future!

NO. But it does not mean you should not listen. There is supposedly a gospel of Judas that states the true word of Christ. In it suppossedly it says you do not need a priest or a church to talk to God. Jesus said ``turn over a stone and you will find me, look under a log or into a shadow and you will see me, for God is within you all and it is within you to be as God`` No wonder he was villified. Look inside yourself and if you feel a presence of God then no matter who you are and how you pray that is enough.
There is within the Vatican a gospel of Mary Magdelene which shows Christ to be a real man with human emotions. Lets not forget that the Christian church as early as the 4th century ad picked the gospels that should go into the bible that would support Christ as devine and not a man. To understand the true meaning of Christ look to the omitted gospels

Fair question and all religions sux for that very reason but the big issus is the religions that go beyond trying to preach to us, like for example, Islam, where a significant percentage of their community believes in invasive means to enforce their pathetic beliefs.

All fundamentalist forms of religion include people who feel their way is the only way, and that their job is to make others adhere to their narrow interpretation of their holy book, practices, etc.

Unfortunately those who follow rigid forms of Christianity and Islam are also the loudest, most obnoxious people of faith. This is unfortunate, because there are literally billions of people of all religious backgrounds for whom practicing their faith is all about loving God and loving others.

I am a Christian who feels strongly that, while I personally cannot imagine finding peace without the involvement of Jesus in my life, I fully respect the paths others choose, as long as their paths emphasize compassion for others.

Peace to you and your family.

Christianity doesnt teach people to tell others how to live thier lives. Btw, our whole legal system is based on polititians telling others how to live their lives. Let me give some examples.

Do not kill others
Do not steal from others
Do not lie about others
Do pay your taxes
Do not speed

This list is just the beginning of our code of law - as you can see our legal system is in the business of telling others what they can not do, and what they must do.
