My dad's wife has always been an embarassement at functions but they were always cordially invited. Lately she has been bringing up the fact that my sons father is not her biological dad when we have warned her about it and told her not to bring it up that was private, our son also told us, the last time our son and daughter wen to visit them my dads wife was mean to them, yelling, and thowing food at them. My son was upset and she insists on bribing our daughter who is 3 with candy and sweets to keep her happy. Should we invite them for Christmas or just send them a gift in the mail?

I should add that my dads wife is only 35 and he is 60. Not only is she "abusive" to him at times but he never says a word. Nothing, every time a disagreement or arguement starts between my husband/me and his wife he excuses himself from the room or just never says anything about the situation. I do care about my dad but his wife just grates on my nerves.

If she is such a B*tch and has been asked in the past to please stop bringing up past issues then I would just send them their gifts in the mail and have a peaceful Christmas. why upset your holidays for an ignorant person.

You can invite them, but set the boundaries up with the invitation. There will be no discussion of private family matters and she will respect your wishes when it comes to your children. If she can't accept your rules, then send them a nice gift in the mail. Remember, you are the adult.

You should not have your Christmas messed up just because she is unhappy and has to stick her nose in peoples business. I'm sure your dad should understand the reason that you didn't invite them so just send them a nice card to let him know that you are thinking of them.

Your story could have been mine 20 years ago! My Step Mom was so mean to both of my son's but for my Dad's sake I invited her as well. She had her times her moods could really swing. She died a few years ago and she had not even one friend no not even one go to her funeral! It was kind of sad to know that she didn't even have one friend! But my Dad was able to have these years to live in peace.
so for your Dad's sake I'd go ahead and invite her.

unfortunately she is your father's wife.
the fact that she is not a kind person to your children is really imple.....
dont send your kids to her home.
take them when you could be there with them....
as peple get older they are less patience with kids and especially if they are nat blood related..
I know it sound cruel, but its true.... they are your father's grandchidren but not hers.
be the bigger person and try to keep peace in the family, especially over the holidays...
your dad might not be around next chritmas, so not inviting them is only distancing yourself and your children from him...
dont do something you will regret later on...

"if" you invite her, you have the right to let her know ahead of time that any ill feelings about anyone, are to be left out of "any" conversations, because this is a time of joy, not a gathering of bad feelings. If she gets offended, you'll know what her intentions were had she shown up. Try it, it's your house, your right. Okay?

give dad a gift, and don't give her anything. That should make all the rest of your visits with her so pleasant!
