I am neither catholic in the roman sense or Jewish but my understanding is that this is a religious type symbol with candles and such. While your friend may think it a great gift some one in his family will use it as a reason to be critical. As for myself i delight in getting these types upset cuz well I am a little sadistic maybe but the one who will have to hear this BS is your friend when you are not there so play it safe and choose something else.

just because he is jewish...doesn't mean he is obsessed with his religion and want all religious things. Try giving him an x-box or ps3. or something like that. and if he does want a menorah for a present I can't imagine him wanting to go out with a catholic in the first place. If you just have to give it to him...then say 10 hail marries.lol.

Your bf is obviously disconnected from his Jewish roots. Give him a menorah and challenge him to find out why Jews celebrate Chanukah. He'll be surprised to find out that he is descended from a group of heroes who fought for the very beliefs he has no clue about.

No the gift is specifically a Jewish custom, and to recieve from another demonination is considered a disgrace on Jewish beliefs.

i wouldn.t. because if he recieves the menorrah, he might think that you are intrested or into that jewish religion. Maybe since he is jewish----> he might already have a menorrah.
this os only my opinoin, BUT I WOULDNT DO IT.

I have a friend who is Jewish and I have given him Jewish relics. He's always enjoyed it. I don't see anything wrong with it.

I don't think it would be a problem, but if you are really worried just ask him, I know it would spoil the surprise, but it would mean alot to him to know that you cared enough to ask.
