This guy says he cannot remarry because he is Catholic and divorced and the church won't allow it.

But he also says that premarital sex is ok.

Since when does the Catholic church approve of premarital sex?

He is wrong. The Catholic church allows remarriage only if the spouses get an annulment. He can remarry if he gets one. Premarital sex is not ok. He is feeding you a line of bull. Tell him to go read his catechism again. The Church does not approve of any premarital sex and will never approve it.

You are very intelligent. The Catholic church does not approve of premarital sex (fornication).

The guy is correct about the Church not allowing him to "remarry." His marriage would have to be invalidated first.

Because the Church does not recognize his divorce, he would actually be committing the sin adultery not fornication.

Of course, both adultery and fornication are sins.

With love in Christ.

Tell him he can't have his cake and eat it too.

He is right about the church though, they are very strict about remarrying. He would have to get it annulled and go through classes with the Catholic church.

The Church is real big on pro-creation, and they do not condone pre-marital sex, but they also don't preach about the sin of pre-marital sex.

Tell him to convert to another faith, try Methodist they are very forgiving, and won't put two human beings in love though all those archaic church laws.

The two things are totally different.

If he marries again, or enters into a permanent living arrangement with you, he'll be living in a permanent state of adultery, which cannot be forgiven in confession, because repentance would require the dissolution of the illicit living arrangements, an unlikely possibility.

Occassional sexual indiscretions may be forgiven, though, because the church assumes that amendment is possible, in day-to-day matters of this nature.

He should apply for an anulment of his first marriage, If granted, he would then be available for you to marry, if that's what he truly wishes to do.

it doesn't, in certain cases the church would allow him to re-marry,that is between him and the bishop. as regards to pre marital sex he is wrong, i am sure this is his own interpretation and not something he has ever been taught or advised by the clergy or any where else. don't let his view misguide you on this,it is not accepted by the church.

His way of keeping himself out of commitment.

Catholics don't allow remarriage, that is true.

Anyway, run from this guy and don't look back. He is not worth heartburn everyday.
