Take the doggie back. Tell the doggie it is the mean lady's fault, and he will not blame you. But, it really is best for the dog if he can be in a home where he can be properly taken care of. It sounds to me like you had the best intentions, but they did not work.
Of course the doggie will be sad for a while, but this way, you give it a chance for a good home where it can be happy and loved. Meanwhile, give a little extra attention to the remaining doggie so she does not feel bad about it too.

Hi, I am in a similar situation, only with two german shepherds. I got my first one and absolutely adore him, so much that when I saw another one who was starving at a rescue place I just had to save him. Well... I too did not realize how much extra work it would be. This dog has been nothing but a pain in the butt. He was basically wild when I got him, had never lived indoors, eats his poop, stalks my cat, etc. He is living on borrowed time. I want to give him back, but I feel so bad because I too am worried about his fate and rescue/shelter people always make you feel horrible, even if you really know the dog would be better off elsewhere. So.. I guess I don't really have a concrete answer for you since I am struggling as well. The one thing I can say is you might want to give it more time. My dog was a horror the first week, although he still is not a perfect fit for my household, he is much much better than he first was. You could also seek some training if you want. Good luck.

If you have no choice, take the dog back. I feel sorry for you and the dog. I know I couldn't take it back. I have four dogs of my own so I do know it is extra work.I feel the dog will know,he might be just a dog,but they too have feelings and a brain. I hope the dog finds a forever home real soon. I wish you both all the best.

It is best to take him back and be done with it. Two dogs are not only alot of work, but alot of money. I feel bad for you, but if you cannot make the dog happy, you have to do the right thing. If the woman you are dealing with volunteers for an organization, make sure you file a complaint about her nasty attitude!

It sounds to me like this 'rescue lady' is not a lady and needs a boot to the backside.
If you can't take care of a second dog because of your health, then it would be cruel to try to keep her. It would not be doing either of you any favors. Give her to someone who can take care of her, or take her back- when someone else is on duty! And you might write a letter of complaint about this woman while you're at it.
Feel better.
