I know some workplaces are going to a "scent free" policy where workers are forbidden to use products such as anti-perspirant that have fragrances. Perfume or Colonge is obviously out. I realize that certain people have allergies, and other people just use too much fragrance, but what about the alternative?

My fiancee' for example is really put off by anyone with even the slightest natural body odor? She keeps our home loaded full of natural flowers and fragrances. She has complained to me many times about her office colleagues who in her words "don't wash good enough between the knees and navel". So in her idea, fragrance free is not a pleasant thing.

Do you like the idea of "scent free"? How are people supposed to deal with their natural odors apart from constant showering and washing?

that's a tough one. i work in a very small office space with multiple people in and out all day long and there are people who come in the door and you can immediately smell their cologne and when they leave, i can still smell them atleast 15 minutes later. i get migraines, specifically migraines triggered by strong scents. this is a problem for me and causes me discomfort for long after the person has gone on their way.
but, the lack of deodorants could be a problem as well. many people's body odor can't be controlled by a scentless antipersperant.

i think the best thing would be for h.r. to do a seminar or class about it all and ask that people not spray more than one spray of cologne and that everybody wear deodorant daily. either way, i'm sure it would offend someone.

I could only wish that people would be scent free. There perfumes and fabric softeners give me a migraine that go on for days. I have taken every type of medication to prevent the problem but there is no solution. There are lots of people with neurologic, respiratory and other health problems who can't shop in a mall or many other places, can't even go to church without being poisoned. That's what it is to us, is poison.

It's not a preference or dislike. My migraines are like having a stroke. Just so you understand the issue from my perspective.

As to people with allergies, not everyone can find a medication which helps them.

I think this is a great idea and wish that more places did it. As a person who is highly allergic and gets horrible migraines from morons and their bad cologne habbits, I would love to have this in my office and other places. Scent free doesn't mean no washing, there are unscented products that you can use just as easily as the scented ones and they work just as well. I guess until you have suffered from someone's gallon of perfume instead of one squirt, you just wouldn't know how it feels.

No... these 'scent sensitive' people chose not to take medications to prevent allergic reactions. Other people should not be influenced by their inability to control their allergies! I really don't think that most work places will be able to force you to stop wearing scented things. My school (university) has a policy, I don't stick to it and neither do my friends. The people with allergies CHOOSE not to do anything about it...I'm not going to make a concession for them :)
