You make the decision yourself that you want to move on. "Moving on" is a mindset that you need to put yourself in, and to get into that mindset you need to have other motivations rather than the memory of the one you loved.

For example, say you had a goal to get the job of your dreams. Silly example, I know, but in order to move on, you may focus your energy to getting the job of your dreams. Soon you'll find yourself focusing on that rather than the one whom you probably miss at the moment.

You can also direct your energy towards finding another one, but I advise to focus on your goals and personal contentment. But if a good relationship is one of your goals, then go for it. Despite popular belief, there's someone out there for everyone, and you'll eventually find happiness.

Although others have suggested it, I don't recommend getting right into another relationship. When you are hurting you will look desperate and what you attract will probably be the type that will manipulate and take advantage. Spend time with your bud's, keep busy, work on cars if you have access, learn a trade you can do with your hands. It always makes a man feel better to be able to look at something he has accomplished and be proud of himself. Get yourself back together first, then when the time is right, love will find you.

While you're waiting to find someone else (since that seems to be the popular answer), you just have to keep reassuring yourself that there IS someone else out there for you who will make you happy. If you're recovering from a breakup, then you just need to keep reminding yourself that it ended for a reason and you can do better.

Well, you just have to tell yourself that you will be okay. Having emotional support from your family and friends is a huge plus.

My boyfriend broke up with me Thursday night. I was a complete mess. The next day though, I watched The Wedding Singer because I knew I could relate to it and also because it's incredibly funny. My family was there to help me and to give me strength. I also had lots of people praying for me.

That night though, my boyfriend messaged me to get back together. We're going to try again.

There are other people out there though. You've got to remember that.

Find something else to fill your thoughts and your heart with. Learn to play a musical instrument, read a book, pursue a hobby, hang with friends, etc. Examine what happened to figure out what lessons you have learned and what changes you will make in the future and then leave it behind.

Believe it or not ~ you doing it already and NOT just by asking the question. I seen the answers so far is to find another... This does help get your mind off your X. However, word of caution~ you need to be aware that you have some healing to do and whomever you meet next needs to be aware of where they May stand which is simply 'rebound' material. ; ) Good luck!

You will it just takes a while, the worst thing you can do is to find someone else to replace those feelings.... just do what you need to do wheater is scream cry or trow eggs in their face (just kiddin) eventually you wont even remember the exact color of their eyes or even the correct way to spell their names....

only with time will you stop thinking of them
only with time you will focus again on you

only with time, the saying goes.

but you can make it shorter by throwing away all things that remind you of them, by not talking to them, or their friends...

"start from scratch" so to speak... live a life without knowing about their existence...

hopefully then, it would be time to move on
