I don't have health insurance and my 6 year old has an ear infection... I'm going to purchase amoxicillin off the internet and I need help with the amount she should take and how often she should take it in a day... anyone remember the instructions and the milligramage of an old prescription for a child of that age?

amoxicillin is given by weight not age...depending on the strength per mg would determine whether it is taken 2 or 3 times a day.....i would recommend calling your local pharmacy and speak to the pharmacist.....they can calculate it over the phone....thats the best bet

Even if you don't have health insurance, your child should be eligible for state assistance. Even here in New Hampshire, where the motto is "Live Free or Die," which, I say is the state's approach to taxation and healthcare respectively. hah.

Anyway, look into what might be available for your child through the state.

For now, if you don't have much money, you could get it treated the ER and they would write off the visit if you can't pay, but they can't turn you away from getting services , esp for a child.

I don't recommend self-diagnosing and playing doctor - even I only RARELY write myself prescriptions for, say a sinus infection, even tho' I CAN cuz i'm a dentist.

Good luck; i hope your child gets well soon!

That's a question for your pharmacist. If you're concerned about the effects it will have on your child, you need to ask a professional and not strangers on the internet. Also, 5mL does not clarify the dose. It depends on how many times a day and the strength of the medication. It will most likely be in mg or might appear as mg/mL.
