"What separates us as believers in Christ is much less than what unites us." (Pope John XXIII)

Almost all important doctrine is completely agreed upon between Catholic Christians and other Christians.

Here is the joint declaration of justification by Catholics (1999), Lutherans (1999), and Methodists (2006):

By grace alone, in faith in Christ's saving work and not because of any merit on our part, we are accepted by God and receive the Holy Spirit, who renews our hearts while equipping us and calling us to good works.

There are many minor doctrine issues and some major cultural traditional differences which, I believe, do not matter that much.

A Catholic worships and follows Christ in the tradition of Catholicism which, among other things, recognizes that Christ made Peter the leader of His new Church and Pope Benedict XVI is Peter's direct successor.

With love in Christ.

the beginning up of the church basically began with living house communities assembly secretly for worry of persecution. simply by fact the church began to get prepared adjustments arose ensuing in the 1st schism of the church into the jap and Western Church. The Western church believed that the middle of the christian church ought to be in Rome and that there ought to be a unmarried chief for the church, ie. the Pope. with the aid of the years there have been many different schisms, which includes while Luther separated from the Catholic church and started the Lutheran Church. Many branches or denominations of Christianity had their start up with significant religious leaders like John Wesley (Methodist), John Calvin (Baptist), and William sales area (Salvation military) just to call some. The question relatively ought to be, "what's the version between a Catholic individual and a Protestant individual?" as the two are christian yet have some distinctive ideals on worship and the sacraments. the required Christian ideals are a similar nevertheless. in case you have chose me to rattle off some specific adjustments only ask yet a Catholic individual IS a christian.

The word Christian or Christianity derives originally from the word or name of Christ of Jesus Christ, the originator of the religion , of which every one for the most part follow it in this part of the world , so to the name Christ was added a " ian " for a singular and "ianity" for plural , and is for the believer of J. Christ dying at the cross. The catholic religion was name as such because the first pope or leader of the religion established it and was St. Peter.. the catholic religion flourished with time , but remember it was King Henry the eight ( I believe , pardon if I am wrong ) he for divorce purposes reneged the Pope and established the protestant religion and himself as the leader of the Church of England being the Anglicans , from there it folowed other separations , being the Baptists ,and later Presbyterians .
But just about the time the protestants were growing , In Germany the Lutherans were also creating there own religion ... Basicaly all the denominations that we have right now are descendants of the Catholic religion , they separated because of disagreements with the catholic teachings .

catholics do use the name of Jesus but completely ignore the truth according to the Bible

Christians (real) have accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ as the only means for the washing away and forgiveness of their sins. It is a one time decision which will last for all eternity. The Bible is clear, "You must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God" . As a Christian, I do NOT worship Mary, nor do I pray to dead saints. I do NOT worship idols made by the hands of men. I would NEVER put a statue of Mary in my front yard. And when I take communion (Lords super) I am NOT eating the flesh of Christ, I am eating a cracker (unleavend bread) in rememberance of Jesus. I do NOT confess to a priest because I believe what the Bible says, that there is one mediator between man and God, the man Christ Jesus.

So the difference is very BIG because it is the difference in believing the truth Gospel and going to Heaven some day , or following roman catholic doctrine straight to the pit of hell forever.

btw, there is NOT a purgatory as the catholics have proclaimed for century's and you cannot pray a dead person into heaven, they are either there or not, once they die, then the judgement, no waiting rooms called purgatory.

basically us catholics have different doctrines and disciplines. such as the infallibility of the pope, the eucharist truly being the body and blood of christ(his true presence),the seven sacraments,etc......catholics are christian aswell, the word catholic simply means universal relating to the unity of the church world wide. you can visit any catholic website for a better understanding of what and why catholics believe what we do. other christian denominations vary, some like the lutherans still consider themselves somewhat catholic etc......hope this helps,it would take a long time to incorporate all the information on differences etc. you can look at ewtn.com/americancatholic.org and others if you would like to research the differences more.

Christian is a religion. Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Mormon, Anglican, Jehovah's Witness, Church of Christ, etc., etc. are all denominations of Christianity. They are all Christian because they all believe in Christ and all sincerely try to follow the Bible. They are different denominations because they can't agree on how to follow Christ or how to apply Biblical teachings. There have actually been wars fought over denominational differences. The biggest threat to Christianity is Christians fighting among themselves. If they would just learn to accept each other as sincere followers of Christ perhaps we wouldn't have so many different denominations.

Non-Catholic Christians typically thnk they are saved by faith, and believe in the Bible as their sole rule of faith.

Catholic Christians know thay are saved by God, through ALL the work (including the Bible), worship, and sacraments of the holy, apostolic, and universal church, which Jesus personally founded, for the salvation of all.

1. Purgatory. Catholics believe in it as a place of purging, the Bible makes no mention of it.
2. Confession. Catholics go to the priest, Christians go to God through Jesus.
3. Virgin Mary. Catholics believe Mary had no sin, Christians believe she was born into sin as everyone else. Catholics also believe in praying to her instead ofJesus.
4. Baby baptism. Catholics do, Christians don't. Bible does not support this.
5. Pope comes from the "family" of Peter, who Catholics believe was the first pope. Again, Bible does not support this theory.
6. Another Catholic doctrine:
Just belonging to the church will gain entrance into heaven. Bible says you must be born again, and believe in Jesus to be saved. A relationship with Jesus is crucial for entrance into heaven.
That should be enough.
