will be replacing an old synthetic marble vanity with a granite vanity. Do you just place it on top of the cabinet? use a silicone caulking to adhere the side and back splash?? does the weight of the granite keep it in place? It'll be like 68-70", will not be at a free standing area... will be set in.

You have been peaking at my new bathroom haven't you? Yes, you have to silicone it down but first yo have to install a type of platform of wood (plywood) that is glued to the vanity (some people use screws but that is alright also) and then the granite top is syliconed to that and when laid, you caulk(clear caulk) around all the edges and even where the backsplash goes to the wall

I have spec'd these vanity tops for many of my clients, 7 they look & perform like custom ones. Just inspect them at the store & choose your backsplash at that time. Also, choose a faucet that has a little longer neck & a drain pull that sits on top of the faucet instead of behind it. Use a lifetime stone sealer immediately after nstallation, & you'll be good to go!!!

This is not a job for a layman to do. It should be done by professionals only. If something happens to the granite and it breaks, it would not be guaranteed....It is a law here that it be installed by a licensed professional....
