No, but there are other illnesses that cause speech problems and they are very closely related and may occur with dyslexia.

Speech delay is frequently seen in kids who develop dyslexia, as they have trouble with decoding and encoding language, both oral and written. In other words, they get the symbols mixed up.
Since your son obviously had speech delay, it's not surprising that he now has dyslexia.
I hope he's getting the special help he needs at school. Usually a Resource Specialist is the teacher who handles dyslexia, or the school speech pathologist. If he hasn't been evaluated, you can ask the principal to arrange it. The earlier the treatment, the better the outcome.
Good luck.

I was wondering this myself. My son has dyslexia, and he has had a problem with stuttering since he was 5 (he's now 10). Both the stuttering and the dylsexia seem to be very resistant to therapy. I haven't given up hope yet. I have searched the internet for studies on a connection between dyslexia and speech problems, with no success. Anyway, I wish you and your son all the best.

My son has sever dyslexia, & yes it does affect there speech, it still does, this si why were homeschooling him, becuase the damn public schools here says DSLEXIA DOES NOT exists anymore, jsut means the chidlren refuse ot learn, it makes it hard on the teachers to teach them!

My son is seeing a speech pathologist through a local childrens hosptial near us, so yes it does affect there speech. With alot of work, love, & understanding, & most of all pateince the child will learn to adjust to this, & will get better. My son is proof.

No, dyslexia doesn't affect speech, but it does affect his ability to read, especially if he has limited language skills. A speech/language pathologist (ask about the one in your school) should be able to do a screen and let you know if he needs more testing.

Dyslexia would not affect her attitude. She could have social disabilities as well, but my brother is really sweet and is dyslexic. I do know that dyslexia can affect hearing, though. My dad has dyslexic hearing and when you ask him a question, like "Why does the sun rise?" he would answer "when" the sun rises. But dyslexia is no excuse for outright rudeness.

No, it doesn't. Are you trying to find out what is causing your son's speech problems? If so, you might want to look into Apraxia of speech. You should ask your child's doctor or have him see a Speech/Language Pathologist if you are concerned.
