The reason I ask is because I have just had a garage built. The next door neighbour's daughter seems to think she is being clever and when she gets an oppurtunity to park outside it.... she does !!! I thought it would have been illegal to park right outside as she would not know whether my car was in the garage or not...
I must point out that they were the only ones to object to the garage being erected. I would love to see something official that states the legalities of it.... and then pop a copy of it through their letterbox.

Yes it's illegal, where I live. Laws and parking ordinances varying from state to state, county to county so, check them out where you live. Regardless of whether or not the cops see it, the owner of the driveway will probably call the cops and or get the car towed. Once you pile up the tickets you can kiss a good auto insurance rate good bye.

It is certainly selfish to even considering doing so although I have seen some of the 'Mums' collecting their children from school do so. In the London area, Parking Attendants often patrol for that purpose at certain times, near schools.
You can certainly be booked if the kerb has been lowered to allow for access to the garage.

It is illegal. We had this problem once. Uni students kept parking right infront of our garage and we couldn't get out to go to work! Serious stuff! We called the police and they had the car towed away! You have the right to do that. Imagine if you lost your job because of some thick ignorant person!!

No, its not illegal to park in front of someones drive way, unless road markings show otherwise. However, if you wish to gain entry or exit, and that is blocked, if the person does not move their vehicle upon request, then they are causing an obstruction and that is illegal.
To get a clear definition, talk to you local police.

Most of these answers are totally incorrect.
It is NOT illegal to block someones drive unless official road markings indicate otherwise.
However , if the offending vehicles owner refuses to move it upon request then they may be charged with causing an obstruction.

No it's not illegal, but it seems as though she's being rather babyish about it.
If you can't solve anything by talking to her, then try the Citizens Advice Bureau, and see what advice they can give you, before things turn nasty.

I wouldn't say that it is illegal, unless they have had road markings put down ," BUT " I would say that it is not very polite to block their access either way, illegal or not, I'm sure you wouldn't like someone to do it to you.

its illegal whether your car is in the garage or not. Next time she does it tell her to move, if she refuses, call the police and they will give her a ticket.
