My son is 18 months old. Lately he has been frightened to go to sleep at night. He will not go to sleep unless I am laying with him and holding him. If I try to move he instantly starts crying untill I put my arms aroung him again. I do not think he is having night terrors, but I am worried. Does anyone know what I can do or where I can get information about what is going on with him?

OK this is what we did for my grandson at that age we put stars we got them at all a dollar ,those light up stars on the ceiling and before he went to bed we read one story hugs and kisses and shut the door turned out the light he had light from out side but you may want to add a small night light .He was so fascinated with the stars light he would whimper and go to sleep.
You have to just let them cry it out don't check on them unless they crawl out of bed, possibly put a favorite stuffed animal in with them to cuddle I promise you after a couple nights the crying will cease
Hugs darling this too will pass.Diane

He'll b ok dont worry he just needs to break the cycle its hard but youre goning to have to walk away. If youve just switched him from a crib to toddler bed that is a transition. So be patient it will improve over time

it can be avoided. I found useful information

That is just normal most children will go through that. He is just going through a phase. Stay with him for now when he wants you too, and he will be okay soon. Good luck

Yes, you have to let him cry. He can work this out on his own unless you make a big deal of it and insist on catering to him. Then you'll merely drag this problem out and make it worse on both him and you.
