I am assuming that your son is going to Australia and that you live in Canada. If this is the case follow these steps :

- Ask your bank to issue you a cheque in Australian Dollars drawn on an Australian bank. The big 5 Canadian banks have arrangements with their Australian partner banks / counterparts.

- The Money Order has to be for the exact amount in favour of the institution your son will be attending, in Australian Dollars of course.

- Make a photocopy of the Money order and keep it in a safe place.

- Give the money order to your son, he may need to show this to satisfy the Australian immigration authorities in Canada who will grant him a student visa.

Your son may also have to show the money order at the port of entry in Australia.

Futhermore, I would ask your son to open an account once in Australia. There are many banks such as Westpac, the ANZ Banking Group etc. Keep his banking details handy in case you have to wire him some money. Your bank in Canada can do that quite easily once they have your son's banking details in Australia.

Hope that answers your question.

Good luck !

My sister in law spent a year abroad at Bond university in Australia. She just Sent the a Cashiers Check through UPS or FEDEX it was 3 years ago so I can't remember the exact carrier, but then the University cashed the check and everything was good to go. Don't wire the money that's really expensive, call the university and see if they take visa/ or MasterCard or whatever you get airline miles on. That is how I do all my international purchases, that way I get the guaranteed best exchange rate with no fees or shipping and no waiting. I'm sure they are with the 21st century. If I can process your visa card, I'm sure a university can too.!

i guess you can wire it from your bank to another bank that your son can access, and then they can give him the money. or just use Western Union and he can pick it up that way too.
