if you want to LOSE weight then exercise and eat healthy, well-balanced meals. cutting out the meat in your diet will not really cause you to lose weight, it will only cause you to lose protein and essential vitamins. if you have committed to a totally vegan diet, then you can't eat anything that comes from any type of animal, including cheese, milk, etc., it's all got to be vegetative in nature...plants only. that's not what we were "designed" to eat though, by NATURE, if you really look into the matter. we highly benefit from the intake of protein and carbohydrates and calcium, etc., to strengthen our bones, keep our blood vibrant and healthy and fend off all foreign matter such as viruses and bacterial infections. that means eating red meat, white meat, fish, etc., and exercising and staying active and productive, not abusing our bodies by smoking or partaking in excessive alcohol consumption, and giving our body the rest it needs. hope this opened your eyes a bit sweetie. good luck to you!

You will lose weight if you cut out the cheese.

You have to find ways to combine your legumes and grains to make complete proteins. Eaten on or the other by themselves, they will not give you enough protein. You have to eat them together, or within a few hours of each other, to get a complete protein.

Also, so you don't get an iron deficiency, eat as many iron-containing vegetables, and make sure you eat foods that contain lots of vitamin c along with them. That helps you better process iron in vegetables.

If you eat dairy, drink lots of organic skim milk and yogurt. Stay away from the cheese.

Try some good tofu recipes....tofu hot dogs/burgers/cheese exist as well.

Since you will be eating more beans and grains, watch your carb levels. Too many carb calories can keep the weight on.

I was a vegetarian for 2 years, and got sick a lot. I started eating meat again, and felt much better.

Actually it is quite sad that in the U.S a vegetarian means that you are misinterperted to only eating fruits and plants.Actually there are a lot of dishes.Indian dishes mostly vegetarian here
its all the Indian dishes and I think the recipe. They are usually complex to make but always rewarding.Vegetarianism is a little unpopular because most people think that you have to live of plants and fruits but boy are they wrong!Oh and stay away from anything that hs way too much cheese like paneer if you are serious about losing weight. For the paneer just fry tofu instead.
You get more protein then meat according to fact.

You can slso find non meat frozen food products ut they are usually not that great.

yes, you lose a bit of weight by going vegetarian, but it is not some complete miracle diet
the amount of weight you lose depends on how much you weigh to begin with
or, if you are like me, i was about 100 pounds when i first went vegetarian, and i gained a pound cause i finally started giving my body what it needs to grow.

as to what you eat, meet your new best friend: SOY!
lots of companies make products similar to meat that are completely vegetarian
one is boca: http://www.bocaburger.com/ however, many of their products have a strange taste. i would say their sausage line is the only product of theirs i like.

another company is morningstar farms: http://www.morningstarfarms.com/
their products are alot better than the boca products

you can also buy packages of tofu, and there are all sorts of recepies on the internet for making tofu. it tastes pretty plain unless you season them.

if you are still going to consume eggs and dairy, they are also great sources of protein.
other things you can eat are nuts, and beans.

finally, take a daily multivitamin, and a protein supplement, especially when you are starting out
i took a protein supplement for the first few months, but i still take a multivitamin every day. so far, after a year and a half, i have not had any health problems

BEST OF LUCK!

My daughter decided to become vegetarian to loose weight, but it didn't work so she went back to eating meat. When she was a vegetarian she ate alot of beans burritos, cheese pizza's and salads. Weight loss is not a good reason to cut meat out of you diet, exercise and eating right is the best way to accomplish weight loss. Good Luck!

I strongly believe you can lose weight by eliminating meat from your daily meals. This is the case because of the growth hormones that are being injected into animals.
They are being fed these drugs to fatten them faster and to keep them alive in conditions that would otherwise kill them, they are genetically altered to grow faster or to produce much more milk or eggs than they would naturally.
This is terrible as these hormones are the result of many people being obese and not knowing why they are this way.

I also think that if you eliminate all ingridients such as monosodium glutaminate , gulyanate and such - you have no choice but to lose weight as your body will be cleansing of all the chemicals that we continuously put there every day.

As for the foods- there are planty of what you can eat.
Soya, eggs, nuts are a source of protein found in meats.
Vegetables, fruits, kasha's (such as couscous), pastas.
Visit this website: http://www.meetyourmeat.com and it might just be what you needed to come to this decision.
Actually, I advise everyone who are reading this to visit the page.
Good luck to you all.

When I was a vegetarian years ago I just could not eat enough to keep any weight on; I had to go back to a regular diet. I was pretty strict though, only fresh fruit and veg, no refined or manufactured products. Go for it, it's a great detox for your system. You need to make sure you include nuts and seeds.

i think you can lose weight if you don't eat too many carbs. one of the dangers of being a vegetarian, if you don't do it right, is you could eat lots of pasta and bread and that kind of thing, which probably won't help you lose weight.
