there are many reasons for it
1. there will be no water bodies near that place
2. the govt or local bodies wouldnt have given proper water lines
3. the geographic conditions
4. the water in that region is either polluted or its salt water which cant be used

We will all suffer a water shortage from time to time.

66% of the earth's surface is under water but only 10% is fresh water and very little of it is good for drinking.

Still we are using the drinking water for almost every thing.

As the population grew and technology developed we are utilising more and more arid land, bringing water from far away places to meet the demand.

The city of San Diego USA is getting the water from sierra about 750 t0 800 miles away, to add to this spent water after treatment has changed course so much, what was flowing in to Atlantic may end up in pacific after the treatment.
