My suggestion: Go to one of the big box stores and compare for yourself. I would stay with either Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Kodak, or Fuji. They are primarily camera companies with many models and features to choose from. Choose optical zoom, ignore digital zoom. Pay attention to how long the camera takes to actually snap the picture. See how accessible the controls are, some of the tiny cameras are fumbly. Most digicams have at least 4 or 5 mega pixels now, more than that is not necessarily better.

You can narrow your search before you go to the store by checking www.dpreview.com or www.stevesdigicams.com. There you can compare features and see reviews of many different cameras.

Don't forget to budget for a memory card. Sometimes stores have a special that includes a bigger memory card with the camera purchase.

Good luck!
