Night terrors for me are dreams in which i think i am awake, and my body is moving as if i am awake, so i scream and wake up my family/ flat mates depending on where i am.

I also suffer from night terrors and I notice when I am either under lots of stress or when I am very tiered I get severe ones. However I've had them since I was a child, and what I've learnt is that you have to tell yourself it is not real and it's just a dream.
I am 26 and only in past year or so I've been able to deal with them better.
My solution came to me when one day (yeah I get them in the day too) I had night terrors and I realized I was dreaming. I wear glasses and I knew that is had to be a dream because there is no way I could see so clearly. Since then I have been able to pull myself out of my night terrors easier because I am almost certain they are dreams.
You need to learn to control them in you sleep.
There is no way to predict when they are gonna happen but good things to do is try and rememberr things in your room like a painting or a mirror on the wall and look for it in your dream and focus on it. I know it's hard but it gets easier with time.
Good Luck and I hope it works out for you.

While it's true that adults generally outgrow night terrors, things such as stress, drug abuse, inappropriate nutrition and lack of sleep can lead to terrible, vivid dreams. Your best option is to go see a doctor, but if you can't do that then you should make sure to eat a well balanced diet, try to establish a regular sleep schedule, and avoid drugs (legal and illegal) and alcohol. Also attempt to exercise regularly as it can help reduce stress and lead to more restful sleep. Avoid eating or drinking caffeine or alcohol a few hours before bed because they'll impede a good night's sleep. Finally, be wary of any over-the-counter sleep aids. Melatonin is a popular sleep supplement. It occurs naturally in your body, but taking it in pill form has been reported to cause vivid nightmares. If you are taking melatonin I would encourage you to stop immediately.

im guessing you are under lot of stress right now.i had this same trouble when i was studying engineering.i was under tremendrous stress.try to reduce stress by putting things in perspective, and cutting back on your workload.develop faith in god. completely eliminate tea/coffee/smoking .this is the best first step you need to take.(it takes 3 to 15 days to quit smoking completely).inspite of this,(after a week or two),if you still have night terrors, i'd advise you to see a psychiatrist.you could also try simple meditation techniques. best wishes and good luck

Talk to your doctor. Sometimes they are caused by stress in your life that you are not aware of & come to face you in your dreams. If they are bothering you that bad, maybe even see a psychiatrist?

maybe you should stop watching scary movies! Or take some sleeping pills and if that doesn't work go see a doctor!

i know this sounds weird, but it worked for me, try to control yourself when you are dreaming, and when you want to end the dream or wake up, just think about pinching your arm, or think about waking, i know, your asleep, but think about that before yuo go to sleep, clear yourmind, and think happy thoughts
