1. Checkered Flag: Starts the race and ends the race. The Colors are black and white.

2. Yellow Flag: Means debris or their is an accident has occurred and all the drivers need to slow down so the pace car can lead them for a few laps and the color is yellow.

3. Red Flag: Used only when the weather affects the race or their is a really bad accident on the track and they need time to clean up the track in order for the drivers to race so they basically park their cars.

White Checkered- Winner of the race/ end of race

Red Flag-Stop the race field, end race under this because of weather conditions.

Yellow Flag- is to caution the Race Field when there is a wreck or debris on the race track.

Black Flag- to penalize a driver for a wrong doing on the racetrack.

I think this is what they mean. These are the few that you see more then any of the other flags that Nascar uses. Hope this helps.

to elaberate a little the blue with the orange stripe is to tell you to move over (if you are a lap car or being lapped so you dont get in the leaders way) when you are shown the black with the white stripe it means you are no longer being scored, sometimes a black and red flag will be waved together to indicate practice is over, alsp to flags crossed together making an X means the race is halfway over, and when there is to laps to go the flagman will hold up the white and checkerd flag like popsicle sticks meaning that there is 2 laps to go ( it looks like this I I) hope that helps a little more.

green tells the driver it is safe to go full throttle. yellow / it tells the driver that there is a problem and they need to slow down. red / tells the driver that there is a major problem and to stop. black / it tells the driver there is a problem with his car and he must leave the track. blue with a yellow strip / it tells the driver that he is holding up faster cars behind him and he must let them go around him. white / it tells the driver that there is one lap left. checkered / it tells the driver that the race is over. so over all there are seven flags.
