And was it rich or poor?

Ninveh was built in the time of Noah after the flood and since it was a port city, I can guess it was a rich city. The people of ninveh were wicked but when their king heard what was about to happen to them if they don't repent he told of the people of the city to leave their bad ways and they all followed him and did so.
Hope it helps some...

It was in the time of Jonah and from the description of Nineveh thorught out the story and at the end, it would lead one to believe that Nineveh was a rich city.

I think it was mostly poor. Nineveh was the capital city of Assyria who by that time was a struggling nation-- weak and morally decaying. Aside from its tribal wars, plague also struck the place.

Due to plunder, Nineveh was rich.
Their main god was Ishtar, a goddess of love and war.
Which by the way is the pagan tie to Easter.

Anyway you asked about politics----Assyrian kings lived there.

The Bible in the book of Jonah describes a major city with hundreds of thousands of inhabitants. That must have been one of the principal cities of Jonah's lifetime.
