I heard years ago it was 25 per cent.

Maybe I should have said 25% of all private property...like banks, shopping centers, stocks. Where do you think the churches put their wealth? I know I heard debates about taxing churches. It was said they owned 25% of everything, but pay no tax. This may or may not be true. It is probably something like 15%, I would guess,

I don't know the exact amount but it is enormous and all in prime locations.

Yeah, 25% is not right. The most would be in the old French and Spanish parts and would be catholic, outside that it would be just a fraction of a %. Not much.
Other than the catholic church, they have no need for land except for a building or a ministry, and that does not take much.

Judging from the amount of land I see churches and the like take up, I would say 1% at the most. 25% would be absurd for anything, except maybe open space.

Who would track something like that?

Anyway, 25 percent just has to be high. That's one forth of the nation.
