Last night my husband had awful gas ( which is not so unusual for him ), but he also had pain in the lower right abdomen, so bad that he couldnt stand up straight, lie on his back or on his left side. (Even though the pain was on the right side.). Any ideas what this could be? He often gets really bad gas, but the pain is new. Also, any reasons for this continued bad gas problem? Its like his stomach is almost having spasms.

Appendicitis is right lower pain and it also doesn't cause gas, left lower could be diverticulitis or colitis. He might also have irritable bowel. He should see a GI doctor, they'll probably do a colonoscopy to see what is going on. If the pain gets worse he should go to the ER and they'll do blood work and a CT scan to see if its anything that needs to be treated immediately. Diverticulitis can be very painful and its common and people come to the ER all the time for it.

Good luck.

Eructation of gas is not alwaysdue to a stomach disorder; often the cause is swallowing air (aerophagia). If a subject can belch at will, one may safely assume he is an air swallower.

Normal amounts of flatulence (gas) can range any where between 14-20 time per day. However, (even if he is not passing gas this much) because how much gas the body produces is dependent on many factors, including how many fatty acids the body absorbs, and a person's sensitivity to gas in the large intestine, if he is experiencing Abdominal pain and swelling and/or a Crampy discomfort he should consult with a Physician for futher investigation.

Hope this answers your question!

Lower right quadrant pain is usually about the appendix. He needs to go to the emergency room. If the appendix bursts, he could die from an infection.

I completely understand. I have had the same thing happen to me. I actually had the same thing and had to go to the emergency room because I was in so much pain. I thought it was my appendix but they diagnosed me with Crohn's disease. it is one of the many irritable bowel disease that we have around. it really is something going on in his intestinal tract. He won't know until he goes to the doctor. You don't want to play around with that because it actually could be his appendix. Better to be safe than sorry.

If the pain is new, have him checked for appendicitis, also if has gas/bowel probs, possibly have a colonoscopy, may have diverticulitis.
