My cat was recently hit by a car and has suffered a broken jaw. The tissue is beginning to rot away and detach from the lower gum line. What will happen to his lips? If they fall off with the lower tissue under his gumline, can his body resconstruct itself by fashioning "new lips"?

Hi Brandon...unfortunately, no. The tissue that is damaged is necrotic which is why it is rotting. If it's infected, which it sounds like it is... your cat really should see a vet to get a course of antibiotics to prevent it from entering the blood stream which could be lethal for your kitty. Head injuries are very serious and your kitty really does need to be seen aside from the broken jaw and rotting lips. Please keep us updated.

nope. Your cat needs to see a vet if the jaw is broken and the lip tissue is rotting. As Seattle mentioned that rotting tissue is infected and this infection can spread to the blood system and kill your cat. Most cats don't fare well after car accidents as there may be more internal injuries you don't see as they are good at hiding them.

TAKE YOUR CAT TO THE VET!!! The cat can't grow new lips but the vet can clean the tissue and stop the infection causing the deterioration. And your cat must be in terrible pain.

Have you had this animal to a vet? He's rotting away before your eyes and you're wondering if his LIPS will GROW BACK?? If someone cut off your arm would it grow back??!! Your poor cat isn't a lizard, for god's sake.

Take this poor animal to the vet and have it euthanized.

Did you take it to the vet?If you didn't ,then you don't deserve a cat.If you can't take care of it,then take it to a no-kill shelter and let them save the poor thing. If it's been to a vet, then you need to let the vet know about the problem. The dead tissue will need to be debrided, and the cat will need antibiotics if it's to survive.
