I hope you're going fresh or are already thawing a frozen one in the fridge. If not, all is not yet lost. You can still thaw it in time for thanksgiving dinner with either the cold water method or, as a last resort, you can thaw it in the microwave. A 17 lb turkey should thaw in 8-10 hours using the cold water method. Submerge your turkey in cold water while it is still in the wrapper. Change the water every half hour until thawed. Done.

Roasting:

In a 325 degree oven, a 17lb turkey should cook in between 3 3/4 to 4 1/4 hours. If it has a popper the red button will pop up when it is done. However, I would recommend using a meat thermometer and checking it until the internal temperature of the bird reaches 180 degrees with or without the popper.

Hope this helps and happy Thanksgiving!

Start it at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Then turn it down to 350 degrees and bake it for 15-20 minutes per pound. a 17 lb turkey will take about 4 3/4 hours. Put a thermometer in the breast near the leg. It should read 150-160 degrees. That is when it is done.

Well the best way to cook a Turkey of that size that is fool proof so it will come out nice and tender is in a Turkey Size Oven Bag. In the package it will say how many minutes to cook per pound. My estimated guess woud be any where from 4 to 5 hours. What you will need to make it tasty is 2 sticks Butter , olive oil salt pepper and some poultry seasoning or plain sage will work. Take the olive oi and rub the entire outside of the turkey, take the butter and stuff it in underneath the turkey skin in all the places u can get it. Make SURE to take out the giblets and turkey neck from the inside of the bird. All of that stuff is in a little bag inside the turkey. The Sprinkle with salt pepper and sage all around. Stick it in the bag and follow the directions inside the oven bag box. Good luck ;o)
