Recently, my doctor reffered me to the local NHS hospital for a tummy tuck. Firstly, this wasnt for vanity purposes completley, although i admitt it was an advantage. The reason i requested the procedure was due to many contributing factors. I had my twin boys at just 15 years old. This in itself left over a stone in excess skin. That was six years ago and in that time my weight increased massivley, from 11 stone to 19 stone! Over the past 2 years tho, i have worked extremley hard to improve my health and weight. Up to date, i have lost 6 stone in this short time. the remaining 2 stone is excess skin. Yet the NHS have refused my application for a tummy tuck, stating that my case is not severe enough. I now look at my body with more disgust than when i was obese. Im lost for ways in which to appeal against this and would be extremley greatful for any help or advice suggested. Thanks in advance.

I agree with kny390, first step is your doctor. He will know firstly how to appeal, and will be able to maybe contact the consultant on your behalf.

But you are really gonna have to make your doctor understand how awful and disgusted with yourself this makes you feel, so a few tears wont go a miss. Make him understand how this affects you daily, how you wont undress in front of your partner, or go swimming, however it is that affects you, make sure he knows.

I know how it feels to be overweight and have baby flab, ive got it, but im way too afraid of surgery! i know how it feels to see my tummy in the mirror, get undressed in the dark, hide behind baggy clothes, never be able to wear anything tight and sexy, so you go for it girl, if its causing such distress, its surely worht another try.

All the best.

Its very hard to get the insurance companies to pay for tummy tucks. I'm going thru the same thing, I lost 80 pounds with the lap band and I have all this skin hanging and insurance doesn't cover skin removal.
You can try to appeal by saying that the skin interfers by causing rashes and skin infections but you might have a really hard time with this. Luckily a lot of doctors office finance the surgeries themselves.

Good luck!

You have nothing to lose by appealing. Get your doctor to write a letter stating why, in health reasons, it is medically necessary for you to have a tummy tuck. It could be skin ulcers, skin can't breath properly, hard or impossible to clean all the folds. He will know what to write.

you have been very unlucky Rosie! i might charm, as there is not any longer something to lose and additionally you have your medical doctors in the back of you. The RAF, if it became on the dimensions i think of it is going to likely be, or there became conscription, you probably might bypass the scientific. regrettably this is a consumer's marketplace. If i will rant, if successive British governments observed all yet united statesa. and have protecting forces, quite than occupying foreign places lands, we could have a smaller military yet a stable coastal airforce and army. certainly, IMHO, the Territorial military ought to be like the US nationwide take care of, no longer in foreign places territories. we ought to consistently no longer prefer a huge infantry, artillery nor any new nuclear ('Trident') submarines.

Don't appeal without a lawyer. You're wasting your time. A good lawyer will save you the frustration of dealing with this yourself. They can get better disclosure of documents that you can't get. But that costs money, money you could spend on the surgery yourself. Not an easy decision. Has it effected your work? Has it made you so depressed that you were unable to work? etc, etc, Does it keep you from doing the things you enjoy? Does it effect the quality of your life?
