I was prescribed 10mg a day of Lexapro six months ago and my prescription is about to run out (4 pills left). I don't feel like it helped/affected me at all during the past six months and I don't want to continue taking it. I know going off it cold turkey is bad, so how should I go about weaning myself off of it?

Does that mean I should skip a day in between taking the last 4 pills, or should I cut them in half to stretch it to 8 days? What is the best course of action?

If you aren't getting a refill let it stretch the full 8 days.

It can be difficult and dangerous to go off of. Maybe you should talk to whoever perscribed it.

You need to slowly do off of it. Take one pill then a half of a pill until you run out. Make sure you wean yourself off it because otherwise there could be bad side effects and you probably need to get a refill to help you wean off it because you were on it for so long. I think that would be best. Lexapro is something you need to go on slowly and get off slowly. Definately slowly decrease your dosage, you were on it for a long time and could get nauseous and have headaches while you get off it.

If you don't feel like its working for you look into neurontin. its really helpful, i didn't feel like lexapro realyl worked for me.

You are really going to need to get a refill from your prescribing doctor to discontinue it without unpleasant side effects...they should easily be able to help you do this. The way I went off of Lexapro (after learning the hard way going off of other similar meds) was I took half a pill for a week or two and then took half a pill every other day for a week or so.

You need to call your doctor and he needs to ween you off. You will do more harm if you stop cold turkey. The side effects are much worse if you stop cold turkey.

your doctor needs to taper your dosage. skipping willl cause withdrawals..and those are never good. go see your doctor about the dosages.
