Look diligently for hidden signals. Answer back in whatever "language" the signals are coming (eyes, sighs, shrugs, a way of standing...). Then move into "your" language, as far as the person will go, briefly. End on a positive note. Try again later.

Maybe you should try talking to one at a time. Express your feelings. Encourage them. Maybe they need a good example. Just don't do too much at one time. Give them time to think about it.
Most of the time, family's get so busy with being busy. Why not say something that you are thankful for at the Thanksgiving Dinner. Then encourage it from the rest. You may open a can of worms, but you may be surprised at the results.

spend more time together do family activities like go to a zoo or a carnival, theme park. places where you could talk to one another. or restuarant. hopefully spending more time together will encourage everyone to open up more if not hopefulyl some cool memories will develop from those trips. good luck my fam has the same problem but i think u have more of chance than i do to solve the problem. my parents and i have a language and cultural barrier that is bigger than anything i can do

Be grateful. I think we have reached a point in time when every passing emotion is spilled out and the demand for concern is exhausting. There is way too much drama for way too little reason. If you have a serious concern, ask whats going on or what you can do at a relaxed quiet, private time, then keep it brief and just listen, or be listened to.
