well the school is 'forced' to a great degree
the learning is still up to the student
In the US there are very few lucrative opportunities for people who cannot read very well, or do math, or follow directions
in a crude way 'stupid people are a burden to society'
education, one of the goals of school, is not the key to wealth but stupidity is certainly a straight shot to poverty

Maybe because some kids think they learn more in home school than the normal schools and school is forced on kids because you need a good education to live life on your own and to get a good job.

Because it helps grow one's mind. Just like a plant starts out with certain requirements to grow, so does a mind need fodder. Without the ability to know things, one cannot interact as well in the world. This becomes a liability on everyone around such a person as well as a dysfunction in society.

Does all education hurt? Maybe a little bit--just like a plant grows better when it's pruned a little bit, so education may not always feel good, but the results are fruitful. Education should not be dull. That is counterproductive. A lot has to do with the teacher but even more is in the hands and attitude of the student who willingly applies himself or herself to the tasks at hand. All thoughts and actions have a reward or consequence.

Eh- what'll it be?? You are in the driver's seat.

School isn't forced--except in places where it's illegal to homeschool. Getting some sort of education is a requirement in most places, though.

State-controlled (public, or forced) schooling was begun in Prussia to create an obedient, barely literate workforce. Check the history for yourself.
