Yes.

We (US Army) are given the M-9 MPBS. It can be used as a bayonet, combat knife, utility knife, wire-cutter, and saw.

Yes, and in basic traiing they are still trained to use them.

However, In my experience the only thing they are good for is injuring your comrads. Most infantry soldiers don't affix them unless they are training with them. They are more of a liability than they are a tool, (when affixed to the rifle).
There are quite a few bayonet related injuries when they are used in field excersises... (most of the time it's dark and someone doesn't see the guy in fron of them and ends out running into their leg or somthing with the point of the bayonet).

Yes they are. The bayonet is still useful for close, hand to hand combat. The bayonet does not look like it used to though. Click the link below for a picture of a modern bayonet attached to an AK 47.

Yes they are. Bayonets these days are multi-purpose. in addition to being affixed to a standard infantry assault rifle, they and be used as a stand alone combat knife and in many cases, used in conjunction with the scabbard as wire-cutters.

Yes. However during my entire Iraq tour mine stayed in the bottom of a footlocker.

yes. as for the one guys comment "army's might as well be paperweights" ....that's because an army soldier wouldn't let someone get that close

Yes the Marines are the only ones that really know how to use them though the Army's may as well be paper weights
