You sound like such a loving person, and I can understand you being so worried about your mother. I am 41 and my father has smoked all my life despite the wishes of my mother and myself. My husband also smokes despite the children and I telling him we want him to quit. I have to fall back on the old Christian maxim of "Hate the sin but love the sinner." Tobacco addiction is extremely difficult to overcome, and many smokers just do not feel up to the challenge. Also, some are afraid that they will never find a way to release stress the way smoking does. I continue to offer my father and husband new information on smoking, it's dangerous effects and quitting as it becomes available. I make sure they know I would be patient with them if they decided to try to quit. I also let them know that regardless of any faults they have I love them unconditionally, but I will not support their habit by providing money more or purchasing tobacco for them. If she does quit smoking, she's going to have to do it for herself in order for it to work, no matter how much it might mean to you. I'm glad you have apparently made the choice not to smoke and stay healthy.
