It depends on their interpretation of the verses of Quran detailing what is permitted.

There is a verse which prohibits consuming blood. There is another verse which says that the food of Christians and Jews is permissable.

Some Muslims interpret that to mean that all food of Christians and Jews is permissable, and most scholars who think this way say that if they are living in a predominantly Christian or Jewish country, it is safe to assume that the meat has been slaughtered by Christians or Jews.

Other Muslims (myself included) believe that the blood must be drained from the meat for it to be permissable. There are shops which sell halal (Arabic for acceptable) meats, and I just eat vegetarian when out in restaraunts. (Halal is very similar to Kosher.) Its all a matter of interpretation, and I'm not going to say the ones who interpret it differently are wrong. I just follow the Quran the way I understand it.

So the answer to the question is it depends on how they interpret the Quran or which scholars they follow.

NO, muslim's can not eat meat from mcdonalds. If a muslim eats Zabiha meat only it must be cut from a muslim, if a muslim eats halal meat which is not zabiha, it must be cut by the people of the book ie Christian or Jew, but you have no idea who is cutting the meat at McDonalds, it could be a atheist, and plus most McDonald meat is slaughtered by excecution, which is not Zabiha, or Halal. or even Kosher.

There are McDonalds in Muslim countries that claim to be halal, but it is a very deceptive company. Muslims and vegetarians were awarded damages in an American case after finding they were told lies about the fries:

It is safest to assume that all McDonalds products are haram (absolutely forbidden) and this applies particularly to the meat products and fries.

I was just thinking that the other day! I think the meat may be sluaghter in an awful, forbidding way which makes it haram for us to eat. I have yet to study how they slaughter their cows and chickens, but now i'm wondering how many other resturants serve Haram meat. In short I don't know, but for fear for God, I gotta look in to it.

[5:3] Prohibited for you are animals that die of themselves, blood, the meat of pigs,* and animals dedicated to other than GOD. (Animals that die of themselves include those) strangled, struck with an object, fallen from a height, gored, attacked by a wild animal - unless you save your animal before it dies - and animals sacrificed on altars. Also prohibited is dividing the meat through a game of chance; this is an abomination. Today, the disbelievers have given up concerning (the eradication of) your religion; do not fear them and fear Me instead. Today, I have completed your religion, perfected My blessing upon you, and I have decreed Submission as the religion for you. If one is forced by famine (to eat prohibited food), without being deliberately sinful, then GOD is Forgiver, Merciful.
